Kazra
Psychedelic Electro-pop music from Bangkok
Electronic / Pop • Bangkok
Kazra is a five piece psychedelic electro-pop band born from the collaboration between childhood friends Xavier Froger, Pirapong (Pipo) Dick and Scott Ovens. Originally started as a solo project by frontman Xavier around the time of the covid pandemic, he sent his first mix-tape to producers Pipo and Scott and the three began to collaborate properly for the first time in 15 years. Quickly realising the project worked better as a band, Xavier moved back to Bangkok where he grew up, meeting accomplished local musicians Roy Marco (Bikini, Mahajamreon), and Zarutt Malai (Bikini, Zamzenlazer, หิน ผา กา ดาบ and Teething) who filled out the band's rhythm section and added their decades of high quality live performance experience to the young group's show.
Their debut 'Never Think Again' contains an eclectic mix of psychedelia, dream pop and electronica that draws from the members own experiences as trained producers and multi-instrumentalists and their influences from spending time in Europe, Australia, the UK and Thailand. Inspired by the love of collaborating with friends and a return to the free artistic expression of their high school years, Xavier's meaningful lyrics and catchy vocal compositions are a standout of the album with ear worms like ‘Fast Track’ being stuck in many a concert goers heads for days afterwards. With hints of MGMT, Tame Impala and Daft Punk, it's release saw the band rewarded with features in music zines like The Cosmos and single ‘Super Ego’ selected for Apple Music playlists.
With the experience of Roy and Zarutt, the band avoided many of the pitfalls of other new groups in creating an awesome and impactful live show to go along with their record - they have fast become a mainstay of the Bangkok independent scene. Since the release the band has been playing bigger and better shows, notably supporting accomplished artists such as Alec Orachi, Rhymekhamhaeng and Seki as well as frequently sharing the stage with Shadow Colonies, Kosum Boy, Lepyutin's Zeedox and WAVS artist Kmonvish Lawan. After dominating the stage at mainstays of the Bangkok independent scene like Speakerbox, Marshall Livehouse, Noise House and Jam, Kazra is now looking forward to the future, with a new record in the works. This time more synthy, more moody and more dancey. They have their eye on tours and festivals outside of Bangkok and in the SEA-Oceanic region in 2027 that will take their band to the next level.
